Anyone had big problems with remote controlled helicopters?

I bought one for £80 (Double Horse Toys), 3-channel. The rear rotor though, has no protection and will snap on it’s first few crashes. Then the stability goes. More crashes. They don’t repair because adding a cage of some sort upsets the weight too much.
If you take these outside the weather has to be very still. If you use them indoors you need a large high room with carpet.
What I find really pitiful is the thought of someone buying one for a child, and the expensive toy is useless after a short time.
There is a kits of parts "commonly required" for £25.

RC Helo’s are realllly difficult to manouver because you have to control collective and pitch of the mast and account for torque with the tail fan.
I sugguest you put this one on a shelf and go back to the store and buy a Trainer model that is more durable and has a housed tail fan or one with a blower fan, that is, a blower whose thrust is diverted by means of a vectored cone. I reccomend practicing with the trainer for about an hour or so a day until you get used to lift off / landing. take it in short hops, then work up to height. From there, wrok on foreward and backward hops, left and right. …then cut circles. There is a lot of practice involved with these toys. the fellow who sold you your Helo sounds like he was only trying to make a sale and not concerned with you enjoying your toy…I would have asked you a whooole mess of questions and then reccomended a trainer.
Do an online search for RC helocopters….we have scads here in the USA that are designed for beginners, kids and even indoor use. SOme of the better ones have dual rotor assemblies that eliminate the torsion that make them so hard to fly.
no, I do not work in a hobby shop…I have an RC helo that is practically an antique…made by COX. took a loooong time to learn how to fly it, but now I have a blast dogfighting hawks out on the mesas and hounding ravens and such…
If you really like RC aircraft, try your hands out on model ww2 warbirds…I also have a model Seafire that is also considered an antique, folks love it. ….the hawks and other birds…and stray cats…hate it, but it’s a bloomin blast!

New Improved Exceed-RC G2 3D Z400 Belt-Driven 6-Channel Radio Remote Controlled RC Helicopter RTF

3D aerobatic capable 400 class size RC electric 6 channel 3D RTF helicopter, the Exceed-RC G2! READY TO FLY! The Exceed-RC G2 is ready to fly out of the box within minutes. Everything needed to fly is included and installed such as a battery pack, motor, electronic and a 6 channel 72Mhz FM radio system. All that is needed are 8 AA batteries for the transmitter. Plus, each Exceed-RC G2 is test-flown at the factory to ensure precise performance and control which makes it truly ready to fly right from the box. We are also proud to offer this magnificent model as 3D capable right out of the box. Combining the knowledge of RC nitro collective precision along with the most advanced micro electric design concepts, we have arrived at a model that excels prepared to wipe out the competition. The Exceed-RC G2 offers collective pitch control that will let helicopter pilots to fly in almost any direction. Transitioning from forward flight to hover with smooth, solid control is a cinch and negative pitch is a breeze for aerobatics like loops and rolls. The installed mixing board controls mixing of the main and tail rotors. The board also contains speed controls, a external gyro for tail stabilizing and a BEC circuit that supplies power to the receiver and servos Expect only the best as you experience tight, precise control and quick response as the Exceed-RC G2 will dazzle you with agility and speed. Using the basics of micro electric design to keep components light and durable while distributing heat away from electronic, the Exceed-RC G2 is not only precise, but also efficient. When you combine precision and efficiency and add beauty, you will arrive at the Exceed-RC G2: The Ultimate Super-Micro Electric Helicopter.   Advanced component configuration design provides perfect balance High Quality External Electric gyro     High Efficient Belt Driven Tail Rotor Design 3D conversion and alterable pitch system provides solid and smooth control

New 4 CH 2.4 GHz Esky Red US Coast Guard Marine Dauphin CoAxial Radio Remote Control Electric RC Helicopter RTF w/ Flight Simulator Kit & LED Tail Light

New 4 CH 2.4 GHz Esky Red US Coast Guard Marine Dauphin CoAxial Radio Remote Control Electric RC Helicopter RTF w/ Flight Simulator Kit & LED Tail Light

New 2.4G Spread Spectrum technology allows the transmitter and receiver to be ‘locked-on’ to the same frequency ensuring much improved reliability and peace of mind when flying. Second, 2.4 Gigahertz systems offers quicker, more responsive control, when compared to a standard frequency system. Third, Operating at 2.4 Gigahertz also puts the radio control out of the frequency range of any ‘noise’ caused by the other electronic components on your helicopter - such as the motor, speed controller and any metal to metal noise - eliminating interference and glitch that can affect traditional frequency system. Fourth, another main characteristic of 2.4 Gigahertz equipment from a RC model clubs point of view is that no frequency control is needed. Eliminating the need to check everyone else’s channel numbers, prior to flying. No more worries about turning up at a club with the wrong crystal in your Tx. The US Coast Guard Marine Dauphin has been designed with an authentic scale appearance. It’s finely crafted and highly detailed fuselage features a realistic ducted tail rotor and colored indicator lights are installed on the top of the canopy, which flash continuously in flight. The tricycle undercarriage with retractable style wheel design will add to the enjoyment of flying this superb micro electric helicopter. Finally, 2.4 Gigahertz equipment use less current to operate than standard frequency systems. This results in longer flight time and longer life of your transmitter and receiver batteries! The Dauphin was designed by TWF as a 4 channels radio controlled electric helicopter with co-axial, twin rotor blades system. It is easy to fly for the beginner, which possesses the characteristics of high sensitivity and full control of the real helicopter. The Dauphin was designed with separating canopy and fuselage connecting by a carbon fiber rod, which makes it practical and beautiful. The landing skid consists of three rolling wheels, which can slide automatically while

This is part of a video series teaching you how to eventually fly full function 6 channel RC Helicopters.

The plan is to start you out on a coaxial helicopter, teach you the basics which are broken up into easy to learn and practice steps. Once these skills are mastered you are ready to move on to a 6 channel helicopter.
