My boyfriend wants a remote control helicopter for Christmas. He really liked the one we saw being demonstrated in Selfridge’s last week. The only problem is I can’t remember what it was called. Does anybody know which one it may have been? It was quite small, was capable of hovering, and was priced at 29.99. Otherwise what other remote control helicopters might he like?
Hi the one that you’ve probably seen is the Picco Z which is distrubuted by Flying Toys / Silverlit in the UK.
These are great fun and basically fly themselves and you can often see them for sale in Tesco’s for about £20.00.
There’s another few options available too, dependant upon what you’re willing to spend (and beware, you can spend over £1000 very easily on a ‘proper’ radio controlled helicopter) the E-Flite Blade MCX is an excellent little model.
The MCX flies like a very tame real RC helicopter and can be repaired and upgraded and are likely to cost around £100 dependant upon where you get it from.
Either way - the Picco Z Helicopters are great fun and don’t require any training or skills to operate, it can take months of dedication and practice to learn how to fly a proper RC helicopter so the Picco Z is probably a good place to start and then if he really likes it get on to a search engine or forum like www.rcheliaddict.co.uk
I have seen many RC Helicopters online and I have noticed some features such as brakes. How are the brakes used? Or is that just an automatic function of a rc heli? Also, I would like to know some local Helicopter stores like radio shack, because I really want to buy a Fly Eagle. Thanks.
I can’t answer for R/C birds, BUT…
A rotor brake on a real helicopter is a mechanical device that can be used to STOP the rotors, or permit the engines to be started and run-up without the rotors turning (it locks the rotors).
It would NOT be used in flight… stopping forward motion is done by bringing the cyclic back.
No offense-but that’s because you bought a crappy product. Mine won’t work at all. It lasted a day and then it broke down. PATHETIC.
I recently tried out a mini RC helicopter that was about 20 bucks from the drugstore. It was really fun! But I’d like to get one that is a little better, perhaps has more range, higher quality, and a lot of fun. Any recommendations? I would like it to be a mini, not a standard size one.
Thanks!
The E-Flite Mcx S300 is on sale right now for $99.99. Everything you need to fly is included. Small, durable, and fun. Everything you need and described all in that package. Here is the link:

I’m planing to buy one, but an not sure which ones are good… and a estimated price would be very helpful too… thx!
hmm, ive never tried the air hog havoc heli, but theres some good reviews on here! I have a firebird freedom, and it’s really good too, only battery has to recharge from car and takes like 6 hrs… it’s really u to you, and what you want though!
Good luck
Moneys not really an issue, but I don’t want to spend like $250 for some RC helicopter I just want to have a little fun with- so $15-40 is my preferred spending area, but I could go higher. Probably not more than $120 or so though.
I did a little search and people are asking really complex questions- like comparing features that don’t make any sense to me. I don’t know anything about RC helicopters, although I do fly RC gas powered hobby airplanes.
A friend of mine had an air hog that worked great, but then his younger brother got a new air hog for christmas that is different, and doesn’t work too well. I’ve seen other brands that don’t work so great either. Does anyone have any recommendations for some of the better "cheap" (as opposed to those several hundred dollar gas RC helicopters my father used to fly) electric mini RC Helicopters that can be used indoors and out? Thanks
For your price range, don’t expect a helicopter that can fly outdoors, but you can have a lot of fun with the little indoor electric helicopters with twin main rotors. I can commend the E-Flite brand. They do a little one called the Blade mCX. I fly a slightly bigger one, the Blade CX2, which has had excellent reviews, and which can be taken out on a very calm day. If you don’t want to spend as much as that I have also had good fun with the tiny Silverlit helicopters, including the PicooZ TandemZ, which is like a baby Chinook.
I am not concern about the effect airplane electronic device. I am wondering if the helicopter able to hover in one place considering the airplane is moving.
The helicopter is moving at the velocity of the plane, and since there would be no wind resistance in the cabin it would hover just fine.
I have an rc plane from air hogs and it’s called rolling fury. I’m having trouble flying it. Should I wait until the wind dies down, or should I fly straight into heavy winds? One more thing, I’d like to buy another one, so could you tell me of any remote control planes under 100 dollars along with the price of that rc vehicle.
most of the air hogs planes should not be flow in any wind for their best performance and the only one i know of under 100 dollars is the sky fly and its a good starter plane, but i would invest a little more around 160 + to get a supper cub more power and more stable plane
Is there a time limit on how long you can run your RC helicopter on a micro lipo battery?
You can not drain your li-po battery completely. The general rule is to not charge them 100% completely, and not drain them below it’s voltage. Doing so will cause the battery to begin puffing up and possibly blow up. Each RC helicopter has a manual and an approximate run time. The approximate run time is about 10-15 minutes. You should run only 10 minutes, which is the average run time on any aircraft.

i want a remote controlled air plane or big helicopter and i like this one. So i looked for reviews for it online but only found three. Can you tell me what reviews and comments people made on this plane or if you have tried please make a review and comment on it
It’s toy quality, meaning that you shouldn’t expect much out of the quality of the plane, it’s flying performance and most of all replacement parts. While flying you must remain 3 steps ahead of the plane to ensure you give it enough time to respond to your control inputs. It will not handle even a slight breeze. Power and duration are low. It does look pretty neat. But it’s still a toy and shouldn’t be purchased as a method of learning how to fly RC.
To get into the RC hobby go down to your local hobby shop and pick up a Parkzone Super Cub distributed by Horizon Hobby. You can even find the package on Horizon Hobbies website.
Check it out and decide whether you want a toy or a hobby.
